In the Spotlight: Medstrom’s Physiotherapy Team – Meet Kate
Medstrom is proud to have a growing team of Clinical Advisors with a diverse multidisciplinary background, including Kate, trained in physiotherapy, who joined Medstrom in January 2022. She describes her general day as mainly clinical – “having conversations with staff and providing solutions that optimise the quality of care provided to the patient” via the best possible use of Medstrom equipment. For the specialist physiotherapy team at Medstrom, these solutions can include “improving comfort, accelerating rehab, making a patient’s care more dignified and generally making a positive impact on their hospital experience”.
Maximising patient outcomes
Aside from her interactions with patients, Kate and her fellow physiotherapy team are involved in many other aspects and features across the Trusts, such as providing training and organisation of falls champion meetings and international nurse inductions.
Their connection with the multidisciplinary teams goes beyond an external visitor – Medstrom physiotherapists evidently become significant members of the departments in which they operate.
A key element of Kate’s role is training clinical staff on the Medstrom equipment installed in the ward to ensure correct usage is being applied, subsequently confirming the maximum benefit for the patient is being practised.
This evolved relationship with the patient’s care is based on Kate’s intellectual understanding of their clinical need, and the goals set for their rehabilitation and recovery.

This insightful level of involvement is wildly effective and appreciated in the Trusts, and what was most notably observed during one of Kate’s visits was the enthusiasm and engagement her presence on the ward garnered from a wide variety of team members.
She was recognised by all levels of the staff, from one of the senior nurses to one of the housekeepers, who went out of her way to cross the ward and greet Kate. Even patients recognised and connected with her, asking questions about the Medstrom equipment they were using and becoming visibly relaxed by her manner.
“…Nothing is ever too much for anyone, and we are all working towards the same goal of improving patient outcomes.”
Kate reflected on this reality when asked about what stokes her passion for her job –
“It’s knowing that what we do can make a real difference to a patient’s journey. For example, seeing a patient placed on Dolphin Therapy for the first time and getting feedback from them saying they haven’t been this comfortable in months and that they can finally get some sleep.”
This kind of feedback and experience in her role can reach unbelievable heights; Kate elaborates on a moment in which she worked at Great Ormond Street implementing the Medstrom Solo bed.
“…Seeing the young children being able to get themselves in and out of bed to play and explore, and witnessing the joy they got from the independence the bed gave them was my greatest highlight.”
Keeping Medstrom multidisciplinary
In the short time Kate has been in her position at Medstrom, she has already noted the ways the business has changed – markedly the growth the company has undergone, and how much it has facilitated the company’s ability to support more patients and staff.
“An increased product portfolio means we have a larger range of clinical solutions…and the addition of 2 more physiotherapists in the clinical team means we can provide a different outlook and a greater multidisciplinary approach to the clinical teams as a whole.”
Medstrom remains the industry leader in the inclusion and implementation of a diverse range of clinically trained staff across multiple departments, and Kate acknowledges that the physiotherapy position is one of refined physiology knowledge that allows a deeper, more qualitative level of support for patients.
Kate’s role is profound, but not rare in Medstrom. She expresses the sensation that the wider culture is one focused on collaboration and working together.
