Company-Wide Apprenticeship Scheme Signals Medstrom’s Focus on the Future
Medstrom has successfully launched its company-wide apprenticeship scheme to help invest in the growth and development of its next generation of employees. The initiative is supported by the government’s apprenticeship levy and allows the business to provide individuals with valuable workplace experience in addition to offering qualifications that complement their professional development.
In total, seven apprenticeship roles have been made available in various areas across the business, ranging from engineering and product maintenance, to manufacturing and IT. Lewis, an Apprentice Engineer Fitter, has been working alongside the manufacturing team at Medstrom House since the beginning of September, saying
“It’s been great so far! What I’ve really enjoyed about working with Medstrom is that I have got involved and stuck in straight away. I feel like I’m improving every day I come into work which is really rewarding.”
“It’s really interesting working in the medical equipment sector too. It makes you really focus on producing high quality rather than quantity, because there are patients on the receiving end of what we put together – so I really try to make sure everything I do is to the highest quality.”
During the initial phase, apprentices balance their time between studying at college and gaining hands-on experience on site with Medstrom. Following the second year of the scheme, each apprentice is then afforded a wider understanding of Medstrom by spending time within different departments.
Cheriene Ward, Learning and Personal Development Manager for Medstrom, has been instrumental in setting up the initiative and remarked
“Off the back of our recent ‘Investors in People’ accreditation, this is an excellent opportunity for us as a company. It has been fantastic seeing the apprentices’ enthusiasm for their roles and how they have engaged with their respective departments and colleagues.
“With the support of the local Colleges, we are pleased to partner academic development with real-world practice, which will help them progress along their professional pathway. At the end of their qualification we hope that they will make their career with Medstrom, so this an investment which will benefit everyone involved.”
