Medstrom Succeeds with Patient-Focused Implementations & Training at Frimley NHS Trust
Patient-focused implementations are what Medstrom strives for when working with its healthcare partners and that is no different with the recent efforts at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust. Over recent months, the Medstrom team has been working hard to train and safely implement products from the Aria surfaces range, with minimal disruption to patient care. Hear more about the process to date and how it has been received.
Implementations Optimised Via Clinical Input
Medstrom initially began working with Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust to support with the provision of bariatric equipment in delivering dignified care for plus-size patients. Working in close partnership with clinical representatives throughout the Trust an in and collaboration with Medstrom’s own team of RGN Clinical team, the emphasis on improved patient outcomes was apparent. This was enhanced following visits to the Medstrom Academy, allowing clinicians (including Tissue Viability) to get hands-on and interactive within the educational space to understand the benefits of a unique range of solutions and how they could meet Trust challenges.
This led to the Trust incorporating a selection of equipment from Medstrom’s Aria range of air immersion surfaces, including the:
The unique combination facilitates effective pressure area care dependent on patient complexity and mobility. Enabling caregivers to ‘step up’ and ‘step down’ patients easily, whilst ensuring continuity of care when sat out in a chair.

Emphasising The Importance of Training
Before implementing any new products, ensuring staff are well-equipped and trained is paramount. Without effective product knowledge, caregivers are often unable to utilise products to their full potential and realise all of the patient benefits as well as for themselves. Medstrom prioritises training as part of all its implementations and Frimley was no different.
With guidance from the Tissue Viability team, Medstrom offered daily product training across the Trust’s multiple sites, including Frimley Park, Heatherwood and Wexham Park, on the Aria range of surfaces. Delivering focused, bite-size sessions at ward level was particularly well received as it enabled a fluid rotation of staff training to be conducted – all whilst minimising the impact on precious nursing time and disruption to patient care. Across three weeks in October, our dedicated team trained an incredible 600 people and led to a highly successful patient-focused implementation.
Tish Littlewood, Lead Tissue Viability Clinical Nurse Specialist, worked closely with Medstrom throughout and added:
“I am so delighted with the whole process! The team have been a complete breath of fresh air to be honest and throughout the training, their enthusiasm was evident to all those present! From my perspective, it has been refreshing to see that all of the implementation and evaluation process has been focused on what is best for the patient.”
